Lagan Cement completed the construction of its 700,000 ton/year cement manufacturing plant in May 2002. The plant based in Kinnegad Co. Meath is the most modern in Ireland. The site covers some 500 acres and has two quarries of shale and limestone. The site has the highest free standing steel structure in Ireland at 125 metres, some 5 metres higher than Dublin's new Millennium Spire!

The site manufactures various grades of bulk and bag Ordinary Portland Cement on site with ISO 9001 quality, ISO 14001 environmental accreditation & OHSAS 18001 safety management accrediation. In recent years we have also introduced innovative manufacturing processes which include the integration of MBM with a view to environmental sustainability and the reduction of net carbon emissions. Alternative Fuels Update

Lagan Cement’s long-term aim is to become the most environmentally sustainable cement manufacturing facility in Europe. It is widely known that one of the least sustainable aspects to modern life is the use of fossil fuels. With this in mind the Lagan facility at Killaskillen, Kinnegad, has made great progress over the last few years in dramatically reducing the amount of fossil fuels it uses.

Lagan Cement is now supplying 60% of its heat energy needs through the use of renewable and locally sourced alternative fuels. These fuels emit less global warming gases and are produced in Ireland, thereby supporting the Irish economy.

You can read more about alternative fuels by clicking on the Read More link below to visit our dedicated MBM site, as well as through updates on the News, Environment and Sustainable Development pages of this site.
