Companies > Lagan Cement > Community > Good Neighbours Policy

Lagan has made a long-standing commitment to being a good neighbour and has in place a 'Good Neighbour Policy’ to maintain a strong focus in this area. As a responsible neighbour we strive to be caring, clean, considerate, cooperative and committed to our environmental duty of care at all times.

Lagan Cement is aware of the importance of constructive and transparent communication with its neighbours and has facilitated this to-date via 'open days’ and 'neighbour meetings’ of the type held in relation to the MBM application process. To further develop this relationship, we set up a 'Community Liason Group’. The group consists of representatives of Lagan Cement and two representatives of the local community.

Community Involvement Programme

Some examples of additional initiatives under our community involvement programme include:

* Regular school site visits * Community Projects Fund including contributions to local centres of youth development such as GAA clubs, soccer clubs, school art competitions and various other local endeavours. * Support of a range of charities such as Saplings, our charity of choice * Implementation of new technologies which reduce the potential for negative environmental impact or nuisance * Review of logistics and procedures to reduce environmental impact * Sponsorship of third level studies for students pursuing an environmental related qualification * Delivery of broadband access for the local area * Detailed communications programs

The company also remains committed to best practice in terms of safety, noise abatement and landscaping to ensure that the potential for impact on neighbours is minimised.
